Hattie Robinson White
serves as the founder and executive director of His Place Child Care
Center, a nationally accredited early childhood program located in
Houston’s East End. His Place began as a home school in 1991 with eight
children. His Place now serves 40 children.
In 2002, His Place was
selected as one of the original 13 charter participants in the United
Way Bright Beginnings Initiative, a program designed to improve the
quality of child care in Houston funded by a $1 million annual grant
from ExxonMobil.
Hattie attended the public
schools of Houston, where she was inspired by teachers who loved their
students and loved their profession. She made a decision early to enter
the field of education. After graduating from Jack Yates High School,
she attended the University of Houston on a Mary Gibbs Jones Scholarship
awarded by Houston Endowment.
At the University of
Houston, she received her Bachelor of Science in Education and her
Master of Education. In 1968, Hattie began a career in education that
has spanned 42 years.
His Place is a
product of many of her own personal experiences in her educational
journey—a place where there is a love for children, a love for learning,
and a commitment to excellence.
Throughout the
years, Hattie has received many awards for her work with children; among
which are the Administrator of the Year Award by the Houston Area
Association for the Education of Young Children, the Texas Association
for the Education for the Education of Young Children, and The Raymond
M. Hill Lifetime Achievement Award by Child Care Council of Greater
Houston, Inc. Hattie believes the greatest award has been the
opportunity to touch the lives of children and make a difference.
